〜 "Alphard" パリ公演へ向けたコメント 〜
飼っていた蛇が死んだ。「おーい」と呼んでも、給餌用の棒でつついても、ぴたりと動かない。解凍ネズミを消化できずに、嘔吐しながら暴れまわっていたのだろう。ケースじゅうに撒き散らされた吐瀉物の中から、カチコチになった蛇を指でつまむ。変な匂いだ。ノートの上にテッシュを敷いて、仰向けに置いてみる。デスクの引き出しからピンセットとカッターを取り出し、まち針の用意も忘れずに（私は服飾コースがある高校を卒業した）。まず上アゴ、胴体、そして尻尾を針で留めてから喉元にカッターの刃を突き立てたが、もうすぐ脱皮する頃だったせいか皮が硬い。すぐに化粧ポーチから眉毛切り用のハサミを引っこ抜き、切れ味を確かめる。これなら大丈夫そうだ。頑丈な鱗をかき分けるようにして切り込みを入れてまっすぐに切り、ガリガリと皮を剥がしまち針で留める、丁寧に。喉元からネズミの残骸が出てきた。吐ききれなかった分だろう、やっぱり変な匂いだ。特別になつくわけでもなく、餌をねだることもせず、まるで誰の助けも借りずに生きていけるかのように息をひそめていた蛇の個体が、今私の前でなすすべもなく転がっている。ピロリン！メールが来た。吐瀉物と微量の血液がこびりついた手でパソコンのマウスを握る。「2012年 新作発表について」件名をクリック、添付ファイルを開く。「作品条件：川村さん振付による新作発表、作品時間は20～30分、出演者の人数制限なし、稽古場の提供、舞台制作のサポート有り、日本の法律で制限されている表現方法は認められません。以上です、頑張ってください！」・・・そういえば最近ダンスのコンペティションで賞をとったので、新しい作品を上演してくれと劇場から言われていたのだった。引き続き、蛇の腹切りに戻る。一番太い箇所を開いていくと中からチョコボールのような物体が出てきた。「タイトル、へびの心臓（Alphard）にしようかな。」そう蛇に話しかけたが、返答はなかった。
今回上演する「へびの心臓（Alphard）」は、以上のような経緯で５年前に制作したものです。この作品は、ポーランド・ベトナム・ニューヨークなど、私を様々な土地に導いてくれました。そして昨年のフランス滞在より時を待たずして、再びパリにてパフォーマンスの機会をいただいたこと、心から感謝しています。

【アルファルド】
الفرد|فردうみへび座のα星。アルファルド(Alphard、α Hydrae、略称α Hya)は、アラビア語由来で (al-Fard, Fard)より。意味は「孤独なもの」。周囲に明るい星がないことから名づけられた名前である。別 名コル・ヒドレ(Cor Hydrae、ラテン語で「蛇の心臓」の意)はティコ・ブラーエによって名付けられた。 丁度、うみへびの心臓に位置することに由来する。視等級は 1.98 等。2 等星の中では際立って明るいほうではないが、アルファルドの属するうみへび座をはじめ、周囲の星座はろくぶんぎ座、コップ座など暗い星ばかりからなる星座ばかりであるため、その中で橙色に光るこの星は、容易に見つけることができる。スペクトル型は K3II-IIIで、巨星である。距離は 177 光年。– wikipedia より抜粋引用
ステージは、9分割された升目状の照明で構成される。暗闇の中、順番に一つのマスにスポットがあたり、 それぞれの区画には異なる音楽が割り振られている。升目に区切った空間を移動しながら踊る本作品は、川村曰く「知覚を踏む」感覚を具体化したもの。美術・照明プラン、および楽曲編集もすべて川村が手がけている。 構成的にも技術的にも難易度が高く、繊細かつ力強い作品として高い評価を得た。

"Alphald"

Alphard (α Hya, α Hydrae, Alpha Hydrae) is the brightest star in the constellation Hydra. The name Alphard is from the Arabic الفرد (al-fard), "the solitary one", there being no other bright stars near it. The European astronomer Tycho Brahe dubbed it Cor Hydræ, the heart of the snake.
With apparent magnitude of 1.98, It is not particularly bright as a second-class star, but as it is situated among the other less bright stars in the surrounding constellations such as the Sextans and the Crater as well as its own, the orange colour Alphard can be easily spotted. The spectral classification is K3, and luminosity class between II and III. It has become a giant star, and the distance from the Earth is 177 light years. (- cited from wikipedia.)
The stage for Kawamura’s piece will be divided into nine squares defined by the lighting. Each square, clearly cut by the light, comes up one by one, featuring different music, and Kawamura dances to it traveling from one box to another. Having designed and composed all the elements of the piece by herself, from the art to lighting and music, Kawamura explains the piece is like to “step on the perceptions”. Her performance of the piece has been appraised by critics as delicate and powerful, with superb skills in composition and execution.
Performance history
After winning the outstanding New Artist Prize at the Yokohama Dance Collection EX 2011, Competition II, the New Choreographer Division，the piece was presented in February of the following year at the Yokohama Dance collection EX 2012, presented by Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse No.1 (Yokohama Arts Foundation).
After the piece was shown in the Japan Focus program at the Dance Triennale Tokyo 2012 in October of the same year, it was invited to the Malta Festival Poznan 2013 (main curator Romeo Castellucci), Poznan, Poland in June 2013. Furthermore, it is invited to tour Zagreb, Croatia at Perforacije Festival and Hanoi, Vietnam at the Europe Meets Asia in Contemporary Dance in September 2013.
